The Somerset Celebration of Literature is a significant cultural event that reaches beyond Somerset College to include the whole community. This inspiring three day festival is held on the Gold Coast each year, with ticket sales exceeding 15,000.
Over 30 acclaimed authors from around Australia hold interactive sessions and workshops for both children and adults. It’s a great opportunity to meet authors and illustrators, have your books signed and enjoy a festival dedicated to reading and writing.
Following on from yet another Somerset Celebration of Literature, regarded as the premier youth literature festival in Australia, we enjoyed celebrating our 21 year anniversary. We can confidently say that it was among our most successful festivals.
As a part of the 2014 Somerset Celebration of Literature, school-aged students were invited to participate in both the Somerset National Poetry Prize supported by Dr Annette Allen of Tweed Banora Dental and the Somerset National Novella Writing Competition supported by Bond University and Penguin Group. We would like to congratulate all shortlisted, finalists and participants and are pleased to announce the winners and shortlisted for both competitions.
It has now been just over a week since we had the privilege of hosting the Somerset Celebration of Literature, regarded as the premier youth literature festival in Australia.
Each year, we host approximately 120 events as part of the Somerset Celebration of Literature. The expansive programme includes special functions for adults, as well as family events and author sessions especially for school students.
During the Somerset Celebration of Literature, we welcome over 30 renowned authors and illustrators from Australia and around the world.
The Sponsored Schools Programme has been in place for ten very successful years and has allowed in excess of 10,000 students to visit the Somerset Celebration of Literature who would otherwise not have had the opportunity to attend.
We believe passionately in providing aspiring writers with opportunities for development. This is why we offer literature competitions that promote the artform of writing, and which can vary from year to year, depending on our focus.
The Somerset Celebration of Literature will be held at the College from Wednesday 18 March to Friday 20 March 2015. The Festival has rightly earned the reputation as one of the most successful and significant events of its kind.
The Somerset College Foundation was established in 1989 by the College Council to raise funds and allow the College to operate as independently as possible, particularly in its capital works programme. This was an initiative of Brian Ray, a foundation member of the College Council.
