The Somerset Celebration of Literature is a significant cultural event that reaches beyond Somerset College to include the whole community. This inspiring three day festival is held on the Gold Coast each year, with ticket sales exceeding 18,000.
Over 30 acclaimed authors from around Australia hold interactive sessions and workshops for both children and adults. It’s a great opportunity to meet authors and illustrators, have your books signed and enjoy a festival dedicated to reading and writing.

The Somerset Alumni Prologue Party, held in Towers Quad, was a truly magnificent event; one of many throughout the Celebration of Literature. Families of the College, staff and Alumni enjoyed wonderful weather and a convivial ‘may fair’ atmosphere, with talented performers and delicious food and drink.
What an amazing week of fun and festivities, and so sad that it has to come to an end. Every year the students’ faces are full of the wonder and excitement of experiencing a week filled with the love of books.
Each year, we host approximately 120 events as part of the Somerset Celebration of Literature. The expansive programme includes special functions for adults, as well as family events and author sessions especially for school students.
During the Somerset Celebration of Literature, we welcome over 30 renowned authors and illustrators from Australia and around the world.

The Sponsored Schools Programme has been in place for ten very successful years and has allowed in excess of 10,000 students to visit the Somerset Celebration of Literature who would otherwise not have had the opportunity to attend.
We believe passionately in providing aspiring writers with opportunities for development. This is why we offer literature competitions that promote the artform of writing, and which can vary from year to year, depending on our focus.
The Somerset Celebration of Literature will be held at the College from Wednesday 9 March to Friday 11 March 2016. The Festival has rightly earned the reputation as one of the most successful and significant events of its kind.
