The Somerset Celebration of Literature is a significant cultural event that reaches beyond Somerset College to include the whole community. This inspiring three day festival is held on the Gold Coast each year, with ticket sales exceeding 18,000.
Over 30 acclaimed authors from around Australia hold interactive sessions and workshops for both children and adults. It’s a great opportunity to meet authors and illustrators, have your books signed and enjoy a festival dedicated to reading and writing.
On Thursday 28 October, a group of swimming and sports minded literary aficionados gathered at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre to listen to World, Olympic and Commonwealth swimming legend Leisel Jones, the only athlete to represent Australia in four Olympic Games (Sydney, Athens, Beijing and London), have a conversation with ABC Radio Morning presenter, Nicole Dyer, about her book “Body Lengths” (ghost writer Felicity McLean).
We passionately believe in providing aspiring writers with opportunities for development. This is why we offer literature competitions that promote the art form of writing, and which can vary from year to year, depending on our focus.
The Somerset Celebration of Literature relies upon support from the community. We’d love to have you come on board as a valued partner as we celebrate our 23rd year in 2016.
