Markus Zusak was born in 1975 and is the author of five novels, including The Messenger, and the international bestseller, The Book Thief.
Published in 2002, The Messenger, won the 2003 CBC Book of the Year Award (Older Readers) and the 2003 NSW Premier's Literary Award, (Ethel Turner Prize), as well as receiving a Printz Honour in America.
The Book Thief, first published in 2005, continues to be a phenomenal success both in Australia and overseas. It has been translated into over thirty languages, and is still on the New York Times bestseller list, more than three years after its international release.
Markus lives in Sydney with his wife and daughter, and is currently working on his next novel, due for publication in 2011.
