Dr Anita Heiss is an author, poet, social commentator, and in a past life, has been an cademic. She is a member of the Wiradjuri nation of central New South Wales and is one of Australia’s most prolific and well known Aboriginal authors. Her published works include Token Koori, a poetry collection, Sacred Cows, a work of satirical social commentary, and the historical novel Who Am I? The Diary of Mary Talence, Sydney 1937, which was shortlisted for the 2002 NSW Premiers Award for young fiction. Anita was the first Aboriginal person to graduate with a PhD from the University of Western Sydney. Sydney born and bred, Anita believes in love at first sight and desperately wishes she could sing like Aretha Franklin. She loves tennis, shopping, eating out, reading and the beach. Fortunate people who insist their glass is half empty irritate Anita, as do drivers who hog the right lane.
