ACADEMIC
MONITORING LIST
Pupils who fail to make satisfactory
academic progress, due to lack of effort, may be noted on the Academic
Monitoring List. Any pupil in Years 8 to
10 whose half yearly report contains more than three 'I' (inconsistent) or 'U'
(unsatisfactory) ratings for effort may be listed. Year 11 and 12 students with more than two
'I' or 'U' ratings may be listed. Where a pupil's name appears on the Academic
Monitoring List (also know as Academic Effort Warning List) for two consecutive
semesters, that pupil may be called on to explain why they should remain at the
school, or alternatively, why they should proceed to a higher grade at the
school.

appointed staff member. This one-on-one contact may be very beneficial in order

ACADEMIC
REVIEWS
Academic Reviews are done once a
semester for the purpose of reviewing every student's academic performance and
progress (end of Term 1 and start of Term 3). The Dean of Studies, respective
House Tutors and Heads of House are present at these reviews. Follow up is
decided at these meetings and is done by the House Tutor and sometimes the
Heads of House. This needs to be carried out as soon as possible and should
contain information useful for future reference. An Academic Review follow-up
sheet is prepared for every student in the senior school. These sheets are
given directly to the Dean of Students and then passed on for filing on the
relevant student files.
GUIDANCE
AND SPECIAL EDUCATION
The school has four staff involved
in guidance and special education. The Dean of Students in the secondary school
is responsible for psychological and remedial support systems and referrals.
The Academic Counsellor advises on
careers, subject selection, work experience, in addition to administering
diagnostic testing.
Louise Ollerenshaw is the Support Services
Co-ordinator in the junior school. She withdraws students for remediation or
extension, provides teachers with special programs for particular students and
is in charge of all diagnostic testing in the junior school.
Anita Russ works with the ESL
students from Grade 1 to Grade 11.
If a teacher is concerned about a
student they should first discuss their concern with one of the four staff
mentioned above.
