POLICY - ADMISSION AND ENROLMENT

Statement
Somerset College is a co-educational day school from Early Education Class to Year 12. The College has an interdenominational Christian ethos and welcomes applications, regardless of a person’s ethnic origin, religion, or disability.

POLICY - ANTI DISCRIMINATION

Statement
Somerset College is committed to providing all within the school community, an environment free from any forms of discrimination. Somerset College is bound by Commonwealth and State Anti-Discrimination legislation. This policy also covers issues related to bullying.

POLICY - ARCHIVES

Statement
The purpose of Somerset College Archives is to collect, preserve, research and exhibit those objects that will enable it to record and illustrate the history and achievements of the pupils, teachers and related organisations of Somerset College Limited.

POLICY - BEHAVIOUR MANAGEMENT

Statement
Somerset College is committed to encouraging very high standards of pupil behaviour in areas such as manners, dress and appearance; behaviour in the classroom and on the sports field; correct use of the English language; respect for the property of others and in the meeting of responsibilities.

The small size, caring Christian philosophy and employment of highly professional staff all help to foster at Somerset College, an atmosphere where school discipline is based on mutual respect between teacher and pupils.

The objective of the behaviour management programme is to develop self regulating pupils, who are well disciplined and prepared to accept responsibility for their own actions.

POLICY - CHILD PROTECTION

Statement
Somerset College is firmly committed to the protection of children. Child protection is about safeguarding a child from: exploitation in the workplace, a less than reasonable standard of care provided, emotional, sexual, physical and mental maltreatment, or economic neglect.

Somerset College has certain responsibilities at law for the duty of care of staff, pupils and visitors to the College.  Procedures are in place in the event of an emergency.

POLICY - EMPLOYMENT

Statement
Somerset College is committed to the development of a best practice approach with regards to the relationship the College has with its employees. The relationship between employer and employee is one that is legally created and therefore places obligations on both parties.

The basis of the relationship is a contract. Relevant workplace legislation however exists both at a Federal and State level. Legislation places responsibilities on both the employer and the employee, within the employment relationship, which are in addition to normal contract law provisions.

Somerset College is committed to high academic standards.  Plagiarism is considered to be a major and serious infringement of Somerset College’s academic values.

Somerset College has an obligation to manage personal information, which has been either collected or provided, in a responsible and legal manner and in a way that observes all Privacy laws.

POLICY - SELF HARMING BEHAVIOUR – YOUTH SUICIDE

Statement
In conjunction with the general concern expressed in the community regarding the incidence of youth suicide in Australia, particularly in Queensland, Somerset College has a clearly defined policy and response regarding the prevention of self harming behaviour and youth suicide.

Somerset College is committed to providing all staff and pupils with a working and learning environment free from sexual harassment and discrimination.

POLICY - SUN SAFETY

Statement
Somerset College is committed to the promotion of sun-safe behaviour to assist in the minimization of  exposure to the harmful effects of the sun by both staff and pupils.

POLICY - USE OF ANIMALS FOR SCIENTIFIC PURPOSES

Statement
Somerset College has certain responsibilities regarding the use of animals for scientific purposes at school. In light of these responsibilities staff and pupils should be aware that no live animals will be brought into the school for the purposes of gathering scientific data or experimentation.

POLICY - VOLUNTEERS

Statement
Somerset College appreciates the valuable contribution volunteers make to the school. Their contributions not only enhance the school’s resources, but assist in maintaining the ethos upon which the school was founded.

POLICY - WORKPLACE HEALTH AND SAFETY

Statement
Somerset College has an obligation to ensure the health, safety and welfare of the school’s employees and any other people who may be affected by the school’s operations.  In securing workplace health and safety, the school aims to achieve best practice in WPHS and to fulfil its statutory duties and obligations.
