Within the Music Department, many performing groups are available for students, as well as lessons on any instrument desired, and information regarding ensembles and choirs is available from any of the music staff. For further information , see the Cultural Information section in this Handbook.
SCHOOL MUSICALSMusicals are a major production for the College and rehearsals for the Senior School production are held on Thursdays at 1.05pm and from 3.30 to 5.00pm.
The performance is early in Term Three. Additional rehearsals are required closer to production. A weekend Musical Camp is held during Term Two.
The Junior School production (for Years 6 and 7) rehearses on a Tuesday from 3.30pm to 5.30pm with the performance at the end of Term One.
DRAMAThe Drama Department offers many opportunities for students to participate in extra-curricular activities. These include the House Plays Festival held in Term One, the Secondary Schools Drama Festival held in Term Three for Year 8 (Junior), Year 9 and 10 (Intermediate) and Year 11 and 12 (Senior). (Student auditions for Directors are held at the beginning of the year.)
Other opportunities to perform vary from year to year. Rehearsal time for these activities does require commitment and involves some after school hours.
SOMERSET FESTIVAL FOR YOUNG PERFORMERSEach year, the College holds the Somerset Festival for Young Performers. This festival is designed to allow students to perform in a non-threatening environment and to be exposed to public performance. Information regarding the festival is available from the website youngperformers@somerset.qld.edu.au and from the Community Relations (Events) Office.
CONCERT SERIESPerformers in Training Series (PITS) Concerts
These concerts are designed to allow Senior students to play publicly and become adept at the techniques used for performance within a friendly atmosphere. They are held in the early evening on the last Tuesday of each term.
Junior School Showcase Concerts
These concerts are held twice a year to allow our Junior School students the opportunity to gain performance practice.
