Somerset Swim Club aims to develop a spirited and patriotic swim team that shares a common dream.
We plan to be organised, supportive and progressive in all that we undertake.
We aim to offer a club that promotes a fun and happy environment for junior swimmers, whilst striving for high results for senior swimmers.
We endeavour to provide quality coaching at all levels.
We aspire to be financially independent.
At every club meet there is always a need for willing volunteers who are prepared to give up some of their precious time to help with the enormous task of organising the programme. Time keepers, recorders, marshals, helpers to set-up, pack-up, or lend a hand at the barbecue, are ALWAYS appreciated. The more people we have who are willing to assist with these jobs, means the less often you will be called upon. Please don’t wait to be asked - VOLUNTEER, it makes life so much easier.
Your committee for the 2007/2008 season:

Vice President Forrest Butcher
Secretary Narelle Pope
Treasurer Stuart Roberts (Headmaster’s Representative)
Registrar
Race Secretary
Club Night Recorder
Club Coach Forrest Butcher
Club uniforms may be purchased from the club on club nights. T-Shirts, togs, parka’s (for winter use) and swimming caps are available. It is expected that all swimmers will wear the club T-Shirt and cap when representing the club at competitions
During the season there will be many meets at which swimmers can compete (the major Gold Coast meets are listed in the club programme). Members may enter any meets they wish but please be aware that the coaches choose certain meets which they feel are ideally suited to the training programme, or that meet the needs of the club and individual swimmers. We encourage you to give priority to supporting these meets. Nomination forms for meets are available in the clubroom and from the Race Secretary.
Gold Coast Regional Championships - 14th – 16th March 2008
We would particularly like to see a strong representation from the Somerset Swim Club at the Gold Coast Regional Championships. This event is seen as a good indicator of the strength of the club within the region and is an ideal opportunity to gauge the club’s improvement from year to year. With more older swimmers now qualifying at State and National level competitions, the Regional Championships give the younger swimmers a chance to show-off their abilities alongside their older team mates.
Entry for Other Meets
Information concerning meets that are being staged by other clubs and associations will be posted on the Notice Board inside the clubroom. Nomination forms can also be found attached to the Notice Board in the clubroom. Please complete ALL details on the nomination form and place it, together with the appropriate fee, in the locked box situated in the clubroom. It is very important to enter accurate personal best times as these are used to seed swimmers. Do not make up times as it can be embarrassing for swimmers and can disadvantage other competitors. Swim meets with qualifying times will require proof of entry times and will not be accepted without. Late nominations cannot and will not be accepted. Furthermore, entries will NOT be placed without payment at the time of entry. If you have any questions about how to complete a nomination form please ask the Race Secretary.
The task of putting all the individual nomination forms together and submitting the batch of entries to the inviting club is very time consuming. Please try not to leave your entries to the last minute. Be early - it will make everyone’s life easier!
The club programme is designed to recognise EFFORT and IMPROVEMENT. Whilst our club championships and other various meets that swimmers attend are structured around competition with other swimmers, the regular club nights reward a swimmer’s personal performance. Swimmers receive points for every event in which they compete at club night, attempting new strokes and distances, and, swimming personal best times.
The point score system is designed to reward ALL swimmers on the basis of personal performance. Swimmers at any level can do well in the point score competition by consistency in: CLUB NIGHT ATTENDANCE; WILLINGNESS TO ATTEMPT NEW STROKES /NEW DISTANCES and IMPROVEMENT OF PERSONAL BEST TIMES.
At club night, swimmers will receive at least ONE point for each event in which they compete.
Swimmers will receive THREE points for each personal best time that they swim during each club night.
To qualify for the Overall Point Score Trophies and Age Champions, a swimmer must compete at no less than fifty per cent of the available club nights throughout the season. Swimmers representing the club at inter-club meets (or higher) during the club-night period, shall be able to substitute no more than fifty per cent of the required attendance at club-nights to be eligible for Overall Point Score Trophies and Age Champion.
A Personal Best Time Sheet can be found on the back page of this booklet. Throughout the season, swimmers should update their list of Personal Best Times for each event. It is important for swimmers to know their Personal Best Times and to aim at improving it the next time they swim.
Swimmers’ times from the previous club night will be posted on the Notice Board which is located on the pool deck outside of the female change rooms.
