Design and Engineering

Design and Engineering at Somerset College is booming! It is widely known that our Design and Engineering Department in both the Senior School and Junior School is one of the best in Australia and the quality of our students work based on our innovative and ever-changing academic curriculum is outstanding. The courses offered included Design Technology International Baccalaureate, Engineering Technology (OP Queensland Board of Secondary School Studies based course), Graphics, Design Technology (years 9 and 10) and Junior School Technology (years 3-7).

These are exciting times in Design and Engineering with the introduction of the Design Technology Lab which houses the latest in computer technology, the further development of the International Baccalaureate course, the introduction of the Digital Video Editing Unit and the Somerset’s Advanced Design and Engineering Sports Car Project.

Our facilities, resources and teaching staff are outstanding. We currently have four labs in which learning in this subject area takes place. Resources include an Industrial Robot, CIM module, CNC mill, material tester, electronics, CAD/CAM unit and Digital Video Equipment. Teaching staff have a variety of experiences and expertise. Mr Charlie Cooper has extensive practical engineering expertise and is running our Somerset's Advanced Design and Engineering Sports Car Project.
