The study of a second language in Years 11 and 12 is still concerned primarily with the development of communicative proficiency in the language.
Ab Initio Italian is offered to students in Years 11 and 12 as part of the International Baccalaureate Programme. Those students not completing the full IB Diploma are enrolled in Italian as Certificate students. All students choosing to study Ab Initio Italian are required to sit for the IB Italian exams, which are conducted in May of the students’ Year 12 year. In addition to the IB exams, students complete assessment tasks throughout the course to satisfy the requirements of Board (OP) Italian.
Exchange trips and school visits allow pupils to gain first hand knowledge and experience of the language and culture of a different country.
