The Somerset College Celebration of Literature is the
premier school based literary festival held in Australia. The festival has a primary focus on
Literature – Reading and Writing – but in addition has displayed an
inclusiveness when it comes to promoting the Arts in general, these being
literature, music, theatre, film and the visual arts. The festival is offered to the Queensland and Australian cultural community by Somerset College as its contribution to the
literary and cultural landscape of the nation.
We are supported by over 40 businesses and are often grateful for the
financial support of Arts Queensland and Australia Council for the Arts.
In 2008, the Somerset Celebration of Literature will be
fifteen years old. Through the writers’ programme,
the librarians and teachers’ conference, the National Novella Writing
Competition and the Poetry Prizes for School Aged
Children Competition
Somerset College
is bringing to the forefront the issue of literacy and the significance it has
for all our lives.
