WINNER OF THE
SYDNEY INTERNATIONAL PIANO COMPETITION
The Sydney International Piano Competition was inaugurated
in July 1977 and is held in July every four years. It was admitted as a member
of the Federation of International Music Competitions in 1978, and is presented
in association with the University
of Sydney and with the
co-operation of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. From the September 2007 SIPCA Newsletter,
Claire Dan AM, OBE wrote:
The opening recital of the 2008 Competition will be given by
John Chen - The 1st Prizewinner of the 2004 Competition. John Chen performed at Somerset College
in our 2006 International Master Musicians Series. John is the youngest ever winner of the
Sydney International Piano Competition.
He mesmerized our audience with his keyboard prowess at such a young
age.

MUSIC DAY OF EXCELLENCE
(MASTER CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS)
In conjunction with the Somerset Festival for Young Performers
Somerset College
is pleased to offer Workshops/Master Classes in vocal and instrumental
performance for aspiring young musicians.
MASTER CLASSES/WORKSHOPS will be presented by top music educators and
performers in the selected fields.
The highlight of the day will be a recital by the
participants selected from the Workshops/Master Classes and the day will
conclude with a Twilight Invitation Concert performed by these participants and
selected participants from the Somerset Festival for Young Performers
commencing at 6.30pm.
