Collaboration is key in IB Theatre Arts

Rosie Bensley and Xenavee Goldsmith are in the process of completing the Theatre Arts curriculum as part of their IB Diploma. This student centred course encourages each learner to engineer their own learning experience, by selecting the practitioners, performance conventions, styles and plays they wish to study. One of the four assessment tasks the girls must submit in 2017 is the Collaborative Project and they completed the performance component on Thursday the 27th of April in the Performing Arts Theatre.

Entrepreneurial Tech Innovators @ Somerset

Congratulations to the Somerset College students involved in the recent Startup Weekend Gold Coast event, hosted by Bond University. The Overall Favourite and the Crowd Favourite winning team was Waterways, a team of seven members which included Year 10 and Year 12 Somerset students: Jordan Murdock, Mitchell Murdock, Zachary Lai and Tim Shen. The High School Favourite winning team was Yetti Wear, a team of six members which included Year 11 Somerset student; Valerie Fang.

Clover Hill State School Breakfast Club

Every Wednesday before school, the Year 12 cohort of Somerset College have been participating in the Clover Hill State School Breakfast Club. The Breakfast Club offers students an opportunity to give back to the community by connecting with the Clover Hill students. It is a relaxed and social environment, with each morning usually consisting of a casual chat with the primary students over breakfast and a round of board games before they go to their first class for the day.

5 Somerset Students in Under 18 Rugby Union State Championships

Over the weekend 5 Somerset students participated in the Under 18 Rugby Union Championship held at Sunnybank Rugby Club. Joshua Vuta, Kai George, E’Shea Gafa and twin brothers Charles and Lewis Pye accounted for almost one quarter of the South Coast squad and when they all started in some matches it meant that Somerset College players made up one third of the starting team - a superb statistic in itself!
