Spartan Intramural Basketball league is a new initiative to bring together the Somerset College and Bond University communities. Team’s face off every Monday night, 6:00pm and 7:00pm, at Somerset College.

This past Monday four out of the five teams gathered on the Somerset College Basketball court for the inaugural intramural basketball season. Representing a mixture of staff, parents, alumni with a variety of skill-levels involved, many did not know what to expect at the opening tip-off.

The night started with the Somerset Globetrotters versus the Masters of Jam. The Globetrotters struggled against the Masters of Jam’s full court press. Although the Globetrotters displayed some great defensive efforts, Masters of Jam were unstoppable and pulled away with the win.

Following the 6:00pm game, Alley-oops and Swhish Squad took the floor for a highly competitive match. The two teams boasted some great talent and athleticism. The game remained close into the half. Eventually, Swhish Squad’s scoring threats clenched them the victory.

Next week, Masters of Jam take on Swish Squad at 6:00pm. The Free Agents and Alley-oops take the court at 7:00pm.

The intramural league has proven to be a fun event that values sportsmanship, community building and friendly competition. It has been a great way for those who vary in skills and experience to come together and be active. We look forward to future games and hope to build momentum throughout the season.
