Our Staff

The Headmaster is responsible for the vision and strategic direction of Somerset College. The Headmaster has appointed an experienced and capable member of staff in charge of key areas in the College, with responsibilities for leading and day-to-day operation.

In the Senior School, he delegates day-to-day conduct to his Deputy Headmaster, Dr Michael Brohier. The Head of Senior School, Dr Adrian Johnson, attends to pastoral care matters, whilst the Dean of Middle Years assists the Deputy Headmaster with academic matters.

In the Junior School, the Headmaster delegates day-to-day management to the Head of Junior School.

College structures ensure each matter is handled personally by the appropriate staff member. All approaches to the Headmaster should be made through the Headmaster's Personal Assistant, Mrs Wendy Bacon.

Headmaster

Craig is the third Headmaster of Somerset and joined the College from Whitsunday Anglican School at Mackay where he was Principal. Before this he was Deputy Principal of Trinity Anglican School in Cairns and Director of Admissions and Master of McKinley House at The Southport School. He has taught at The Hotchkiss School, Connecticut, USA and St Anne's School, Windermere, UK. He has taught Senior English, Literature and Media Studies for many years. As Headmaster, Craig is the chief executive of the College. He is appointed by the College Board and is responsible to the Board for the proper conduct, management and discipline of the College.

Deputy Headmaster

Michael joined the staff of Somerset College in 1996 from Pulteney Grammar School in South Australia where he was Director of English and The Arts. Michael is responsible for the organisation, timetabling and supervision of curriculum matters in the Senior School. As the co-ordinator of curriculum matters in the Senior School, he also co-ordinates the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme and is Chairperson of the Somerset Celebration of Literature. The Deputy Headmaster stands in for the Headmaster whenever the need arises.

Chief Operating Officer

David commenced at the College in January 2013. He is responsible to the Headmaster for the financial operations of the College and the management of accounting staff.

Head of Senior School

Adrian joined the staff of Somerset College in 2010 as the inaugural Head of Senior School, having previously taught at Ibstock Place School in London. Adrian is responsible for the co-ordination of student support systems and services for students in the Senior School. He oversees Heads of House and the pastoral care programme, is responsible for the handling of disciplinary matters and for supervision of the operating routines in the Senior School.

Dean of Middle Years

Michele joined the staff of the Junior School at Somerset College in 1985. In 1993, Michele was appointed as Year 7 Co-ordinator and in 1998 she was appointed Junior School Curriculum Co-ordinator. She was promoted to Head of Department - Junior Curriculum in 2003 and was Deputy – Junior School from 2003 to 2013. Michele is responsible for co-ordinating the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme.

Dean of Activities

Craig joined the staff of Somerset College in 1988. He held the positions of Subject Master — Physical Education, House Master and Director of Sport until 1999. After seven years in Hong Kong, Craig returned to Somerset College in 2008. He is responsible for student activities within the College and overall responsibility for outdoor education programme in the Senior School. The Dean of Activities also acts as the Headmaster's representative in the Somerset Rowing, Tennis and Swim Clubs.

Dean of Admissions

John joined the staff of Somerset College in 2003 from Melbourne Girls Grammar School. John is responsible to the Headmaster for enrolments and admissions of new students into the College. He also oversees all aspects of community relations, alumni, publicity and promotion of the College. As the Dean of Admissions, John works closely with the Headmaster in relation to the College Foundation.

Dean of Information Technologies

Lisa is the inaugural Dean of Information Technologies, having commenced in 2011. Lisa was previously Head of Information Technology at Toowoomba Grammar School. She is responsible for the development, organisation, evaluation and resourcing of curriculum and system wide information technologies in the College including ICT, AV, Administrative and Library Technologies.

Dean of Studies

Karen is the inaugural Dean of Studies, having commenced in this new role from Term Two 2016. Karen taught Mathematics at Somerset from 1995 to 2001, was Head of Learning - Mathematics at Trinity Lutheran College from 2002 to 2011 and returned to Somerset in 2012 as the Academic Counsellor.

She is responsible for overseeing the QCS, QCAA and QTAC programmes, data analysis of Reports, NAPLAN, Diagnostic testing, academic guidance and counselling including advice on careers, subject selection and work experience.
