Somerset students are acknowledged for their achievements across a wide variety of endeavours. Significant awards are presented at various events and ceremonies, including Scholars’ Day, Cultural Collage, the Sports Awards Dinner, the Wordsmiths' Dinner, Synergies and the Investiture Service.

Spirit of Somerset and Founders’ Day Award

The Spirit of Somerset is presented to a Senior School student, a member of the Somerset community, and a staff member on Founders’ Day. The Founders’ Day Award is presented to Junior School students. These awards are in recognition of exceptional effort and commitment, and recognise qualities of performance that the College is proud to embrace as the Spirit of Somerset. The Spirit of Somerset Award in the Senior School is considered an Honour and the recipient is entitled to wear an Honour blazer.

Honours, Full Colour and Half Colour Awards

Each year, Somerset College recognises the contributions and achievements of students in non-academic areas by the awarding of Honours, Full Colours and Half Colours awards.

Candidates for these awards are nominated by relevant staff for consideration by the Colours Committee for recommendation to the Headmaster for award of Honours, Full Colour or Half Colour. A recipient of an Honour is entitled to wear an Honour blazer. A recipient of a Full Colour award is entitled to wear a Full Colour tie and/or badge as part of their uniform. A recipient of a Half Colour is entitled to wear a Half Colour tie and/or badge as part of their uniform.

School Honour

This award honours students at Somerset College in the areas of non-academic achievement and leadership. To achieve this award in the student's non-academic chosen activity, the student will have demonstrated skill and talent generally at the highest level available. To achieve this award in the area of leadership, the student will have demonstrated exemplary leadership at a level recognised and respected by staff and students for their contributions to the College.

All recipients of this award will have also demonstrated:

  • Exemplary conduct in representing the College and the school spirit.
  • Exemplary citizenship having consistently acted as a positive role model to the general College community.
  • An acknowledged commitment to preparation and assistance within their chosen activity.

Full Colour

This award is the second highest level of non-academic achievement recognised by Somerset College. It is awarded on the basis of outstanding performance in the student's chosen activity and excellence in representing the College. Recipients of this award will have also demonstrated an excellent level of citizenship and school spirit, a commitment to preparation and assistance in developing the growth of the area within the College.

Half Colour

This is a major award granted by Somerset College for non-academic achievement. It is awarded on the basis of very high levels of performance in the student's chosen activity and whose actions represent the best interests of the College.
