Alumni Pitch Development Programme

In Partnership with the Celebration of Entrepreneurship - Tuesday 13 and Wednesday 14 October 2020

The Alumni Pitch Development Programme is funded and operated by the Somerset Alumni Association, and includes:
- Coursework consisting of Training and Evaluation Modules; and
- The annual Alumni Pitch Competition (optional).

The Alumni Pitch Development Programme is comprised of:
Part 1: Coursework - Training Day - Day 1, 8.40am to 3.20pm
Part 2: Coursework - Evaluation Pitches - Day 2, 8.40am to 11.00am
Part 3: Alumni Pitch Competition - Competitive Pitches - Day 2, 11.30am to 2.20pm
Part 4: Alumni Pitch Competition - Grand Final - Day 2, 2.20pm to 3.20pm
Part 5: Team Mentoring Sessions - Available until the next Alumni Pitch Development Programme

Student Involvement

Participation in the two-day Alumni Pitch Development Programme is limited to 30 students, and is open to:

  • Year 10 Business Students; and

  • Any students in Years 7 to 12 who would like to be involved.

Students’ participation in the two-day Alumni Pitch Competition Programme is contingent on:

  • Students submitting their team name, members, and business idea at least one (1) week before the Programme.

Students’ participation in the Competitive Pitches on Day 2 is contingent on:

  • Agreement by each student to the terms and conditions.
    Active participation by the students in both the Day 1 Training Day and the Day 2 Evaluation Pitches.

  • Active participation by the students in both Day 1 Training Day and the Day Evaluation Pitches.

Alumni Involvement

  • The Alumni Pitch Development Programme and the Alumni Pitch Competition are fully funded and operated by the Somerset Alumni Association.

  • Training Day content is developed and delivered by the Somerset Alumni Association Vice President, Mr Nick Richards.

  • Mentorship throughout the Training Day is provided by College Alumni who are entrepreneurs, business owners and operators, or are experts in their field.

  • The Alumni Pitch Competition Adjudicator Panel is comprised of College Alumni who are entrepreneurs, business owners and operators, or are experts in their field.

Prior to the Alumni Pitch Development Programme, the Vice President of the Somerset Alumni Association will:

  • Speak at the Year 10 Business class and explain the Programme format; and

  • Provide students in Year 7 to 12 who are not business students with information to allow them to be up to speed with the business students in terms of the Alumni Pitch Development Programme.

Programme Format

Alumni Pitch Development Programme
Programme Part 1 - Coursework (Training Day)

  • Participants: All students who have signed up to the Alumni Pitch Competition must participate in the Training Day.

  • Content: The Training Day content is developed and delivered by the Vice President of the Somerset Alumni Association, Mr Nick Richards.

  • Mentorship: Mentorship throughout the Training Day is provided by College Alumni who are entrepreneurs, business owners and operators, or are experts in their field.

Programme Part 2 - Coursework (Evaluation Pitches)

  • Participants: All students who have signed up to the Alumni Pitch Competition must participate in the Evaluation Pitches.

  • Adjudicators: All Evaluation Pitches are presented to Somerset College Senior School Business Teachers.

  • Audience: There is no audience for the Evaluation Pitches.

  • Year 10 Business Students: The Evaluation Pitch forms part of their assessment for their class.

  • All Other Students: The Evaluation Pitch is a practice session only, and can be used to receive feedback before the actual competition during the afternoon.

Programme Parts 3 and 4 - Alumni Pitch Competition (Competitive Pitches and Grand Final)

  • Participants: Only those students who have signed on to the Alumni Pitch Competition will participate in this session.

  • Adjudicators: The Alumni Pitch Competition is before a panel of College Alumni who are entrepreneurs, business owners and operators, or are experts in their field.

  • Audience: The Alumni Pitch Competition has an audience of College Students.

Programme Part 5 - Team Mentoring Sessions

  • Participants: The students in the winning team as selected by the Adjudicators during the Alumni Pitch Competition.

  • Mentorship: Mentorship is provided by the Vice President of the Somerset Alumni Association, Mr Nick Richards.

  • Seed Funding: Up to AUD$2,000.00 in seed funding may be accessed up until the next Alumni Pitch Competition.
