As often happens at Somerset the weeks seem to get busier and busier. The wonderful Jewel - Morocco to Mandalay evening hosted by the Parents’ and Friends’ Association provided an opportunity for parents and staff to enjoy a relaxed evening at the Surfers Paradise Marriott Resort and Spa.

Congratulations to Mrs Josie Kay and her committee for making this event so enjoyable and successful.

Jewel attendees enjoyed the P&F event on Saturday evening.

The Seat of Knowledge auction will be held at the Foundation’s Garden Party on Saturday 10 September. Tickets for this function are now available online. The Garden Party is a fundraising event for the Foundation’s Scholarship Fund.

On Wednesday our second Open Day for the year was held. With the APS Athletics Carnival being held at the same time, it was quite a spectacular day with so many visitors to the College enjoying a magnificent day. This year, with our new facilities open, there has been so much more to explore at Somerset and our tour guides once again were proud ambassadors for their school. They entertained our visitors with their Somerset experiences and told of the multitude of opportunities available for our students.

Our students always impress in this environment and our Year 11 and Year 7 tour guides once again did an outstanding job. Being able to reflect on what Somerset means to them and then explaining this to others with little or no knowledge of Somerset is a valuable experience for these students and I thank them for the wonderful work they did at Open Day. My thanks also go to the Headmaster, Mrs Brenda Millican and Dr Adrian Johnson for their presentations to the Open Day visitors. Special thanks to current parent Mrs Gen Fink who was there to provide a parent’s perspective of life at Somerset.

In every sense Wednesday was a successful day, Open Day in the morning and the fantastic APS Senior Athletics result in the afternoon.

To top off a busy week we will welcome members of the Class of 2006 for their Ten Year Reunion on Saturday. A fitting representation of the life-cycle of a school.
