Well done to students and staff on Season 2 of APS sport. The effort contributed by all to weekly practise, and the energy committed to Friday sport is appreciated.

The Somerset College Community had the pleasure of hosting the Australian Women's Basketball Team in their last training camp before the Olympic Games.
Our club basketballers enjoyed a once in a lifetime opportunity to witness how a world class team trains, and then later in the week, were able to participate in a clinic where the Opals passed on their expert advice.
The training session we observed was organised, fast-paced, intense and very competitive. It was an experience that students, parents and coaches will recall for years to come. After the on-court work-out we were privileged to have a Q&A with former Somerset College Basketball Coach and parent, now Head Coach of the Opals, Brendan Joyce, Marianna Tolo and Leilani Mitchell. Brendan was very quick to praise our new facilities, and he also acknowledged a number of key people that are involved at Somerset College. One familiar face he recognised in the crowd was our very own Somerset Under 13 Girl's coach, Madeline Trimble (Class of 2012). Maddie was as a former superstar in a 2010 championship-winning team Brendan coached at Somerset some years ago.
During the Saturday morning clinic, all 13 Opals engaged with the Somerset basketball players as they focused on the fundamentals and having fun.
Somerset College would like to thank the Australian Opals for engaging with our community and wish them all the best at their quest for a gold medal at the Olympic Games in Brazil. We will monitor their progress with increased excitement.« Back to IndexNext article in this edition »
