A very warm welcome and welcome back to Term Two especially to all the new families and students. We bid farewell to Dr Andrew Cousins and welcomed Mrs Karen Crowley into the new role of Dean of Studies.

Mrs Crowley will continue to assist the academic and tertiary aspirations of our Senior Class as well as heading up our Data Team. Her office is the one adjacent to the Deputy Headmaster in The Arnison Building.

Mr Rhys Kemp M Ed (Lead & Mgt), B Ed, joins us as our inaugural Head of Curriculum Services.

We wish Mr Dane Oman and Mr Mike Murray a restful and enjoyable break in their respective long service leave this term.

The following changes will take place for Term Two:

  • Mr Stephen Henderson (Class of 2000), Dip Ed, B IT, will teach in the Senior School.
  • Miss Clara Marsh, Grad Dip Ed, B Arts/Laws has joined the Languages Department while Ms Marie Morel is on Maternity Leave.
  • Miss Melinda Green is Acting Head of House – Laver while Mr Oman takes Long Service Leave.

I’m sure you will join me in welcoming these new members of staff to Somerset.

Senior School Parent Survey

Our second annual survey had over 170 respondents and gave us a wealth of feedback about strengths and weaknesses. Dr Adrian Johnson, Head of Senior School, will report at much greater length but I wanted to respond immediately to some comments about how to communicate with the College if you have feedback for us. As the survey is completely anonymous, we can’t communicate with those who completed the survey and said they would like us to follow up.

If you would like to give feedback or seek clarification about things to do with the Senior School please contact the following members of staff:

  • General Senior School and complex Pastoral issues - Dr Adrian Johnson
  • Academics in Years 11 and 12 - Dr Michael Brohier
  • Academics in Years 7 to 10 and Middle Years Programme - Mrs Michele Sauer
  • Data Analysis and Careers Counselling - Mrs Karen Crowley
  • Day to Day Pastoral Care - Heads of House
  • Sport - Mr Shane Lunniss
  • Activities including Camps - Mr Craig Sayer

If you are ever unclear about who to contact please phone or email the Senior School Reception.

We encourage your feedback as it is one of the ways we can uphold our commitment to continuous improvement. We all want Somerset to be better tomorrow than it is today.
