The Gold Coast Secondary Schools’ Drama Festival is happening in this busy Term 3, and the performance times are starting to get very close indeed.

This year, once again Somerset College will present a varied program across the three sections with the Junior cast performing I Never Saw Another Butterfly, the Intermediate cast performing Wolf Lullaby and the Senior cast performing When The Rain Stops Falling. Rehearsals are starting to bring together some lovely performances, and we are very much looking forward to seeing these productions hit their various stages. Further information regarding ticketing for these shows will be released in the coming weeks.

Italian Comedy at the Performing Arts Theatre

This Monday saw a Commedia dell’Arte performance troupe visit the Somerset College theatre with their show The Greatest Pie In The World. As part of their course of study, Year 11 and 12 Drama students explore - Commedia dell’Arte - the Italian improvisational comedy which was the precursor to much of our slapstick and physical comedy as it exists today. Much fun was had by the whole audience as they followed the madcap journey of Arlecchino, Pantalone, Scaramouche, Columbina and il Dottore. What a wonderful cultural and theatrical experience for our students!
