Local charity, Walk with Us took delivery of many meals this week provided by Somerset families. They were overwhelmed and extremely grateful.
Across the Gold Coast, charities normally see an influx of people experiencing homelessness during the winter months. Walk with Us is one of the charities that Somerset partners with. They have been looking after locals since 2014. It was started by three people who simply shared a common passion to help people. Their services throughout the year include helping the homeless, disadvantaged, youth and domestic violence victims with weekly dinners, food packs, clothing, furniture and link with the Queensland Government for housing and health services. Their motto is: Be a good human.
Nikki, from Walk with Us has indicated there is a shortage of blankets and jumpers this year. It has been a while since our last blanket drive at Somerset, so we are keen to put the call out to our community. For the first two weeks of Term Three, the College will be accepting blankets and jumpers. We do ask that any donations be enclosed by a bag when dropped off. In Week 3, we will deliver all items to Walk with Us when we partner with them for our Backpack Bed Sleepout Event.
Over the holidays, if you are having a clean-out and happen to find any blankets or jumpers you no longer use or need, we will gratefully accept them. Students can deliver a bag of blankets and/or jumpers to the Student Services Hub (SSH2.1) in the Senior School or Junior School Office in the Junior School.« Back to IndexNext article in this edition »
