As the year reaches its close, there have been many concerts and end of year presentations occurring.

The Junior School Showcase was amongst those, where the students presented themselves extremely well to a very supportive audience. In the concert there were performances by instrumental ensembles – Suzuki Strings and String Octet (directed by Mr John Mitchell), the Junior Recorder Ensemble (directed by Mrs Helen Little), JSO 2 (directed by Mrs Helen Moffatt), Junior Concert Band (directed by Mrs Anne Rowe), JSO 1 (directed by Mr Mario Keczan) and Junior Flute Ensemble (directed by Mrs Denise Collins), Junior Percussion Ensemble and Year 4 Percussion (directed by Mr Russell Pearce) and choirs – Cool Cats, Melodic Mynas and Junior Chorale (directed by Miss Melissa Black).

As well as these ensembles, students also presented solo performances on violin, piano, clarinet, speech and drama, trumpet, flute and saxophone as well as group speech and drama presentations and a string Quintet. Congratulations must go to all the performers in the concert and thanks to all the staff listed above for their direction of their ensembles and their work with their other performers. Thanks must also go to teachers who prepared students for these performances, Mrs Helen Little, Mrs Denise Collins, Mrs Helen Moffatt, Ms Martha Baartz, Mr Craig Alloway, Jane Irvine and Mr John Mitchell. Thanks must also go to the staff who gave of their time to help the concert run smoothly. A special thank you must go to Ms Melissa Black for all her time and efforts in preparing and organising the concert.

Following close on the heels of this concert was the Singing Concert, held on a very balmy Sunday evening. Students performed in Towers Quad with our younger students appearing in the first half and older in the second. Awards given on the evening were as follows:

  • Most Improved Senior – Ryan Hamilton
  • Most Improved Intermediate – Yeva Brereton
  • Most Improved Junior – Megan Cattell
  • Encouragement Awards – Isaac Batho and Hamish Folliott
  • Overall Best Singer 2016 – **Georgina Powell **

The very next day, Ms Jane Irvine held a concert for the Years 1 to 5 Speech students. With a mixture of monologues, duologues, mime and group presentations, this was a very entertaining concert and enjoyed by all.

To continue in the concert happenings, these weeks have also seen the Year 2 String programme and the Year 4 Band programme final concerts. Students from each of the areas along with soloists had the opportunity to perform as part of these concerts as well as the groups as a whole. Thanks must go to Mr John Mitchell for his co-ordination of both programmes, and to Mrs Helen Moffatt and Miss Catherine Lee for their work with the strings and to Mr Russell Pearce, Mrs Denise Collings, Ms Martha Baartz and Mr Craig Alloway for their work with the band.

Last weekend saw our Cello students under the tutelage of Miss Catherine Lee present their end of year concert. In a Star Wars themed concert, complete with light sabre bows, the students presented solo and group work they have been working on throughout the year. Well done to all!
