This coming week our rehearsals in the Senior School start to shut down with our Semester One examination block commencing on Thursday 19 May. There will be no music rehearsals until the following week when we will recommence with Years 7 to 10.
Students in other Year Levels are most welcome to attend if examination schedules permit. Show Choir rehearsals will continue as usual.
Junior School rehearsals will continue as normal as they are leading up to the Junior School Showcase, being held on Monday 6 June.
Don’t forget that the entries are well and truly open for the Somerset Festival for Young Performers. This is a wonderful opportunity for young performers to participate in a relaxed and encouraging atmosphere. If you are learning from an instrumental or speech teacher at school, you should receive information about entries from your teacher. Entries close strictly on 27 May. Please contact your instrumental/speech and drama teacher if you have not received any information yet. For more information please visit the website.
Additionally, remember that on Saturday 11 June, a variety of workshops (with opportunities for private lessons) will be offered at the College as an adjunct to the Somerset Festival for Young Performers. The places in these workshops are strictly limited. Workshops on offer include Piano, Violin, Speech and Drama, Clarinet, Flute, Saxophone, Voice, Brass and Cello. They are open to students of all ages, through to Year 12. For information regarding the workshops please click here with information regarding the tutors available here. These workshops are not limited to just the students from Somerset College, all students are welcome.
Students who are keen to participate in the Gold Coast Secondary Schools’ Drama Festival should be keeping an eye on Schoolbox and the Daily Notices for information regarding this exciting performance opportunity. Auditions for both the Senior and Junior Plays have been happening this week. All Intermediate Play auditions will commence following the upcoming examination block.
If you have any general queries regarding the Festival please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Katrina Fisher. Alternately, if you would like information regarding a specific production, please direct your queries as below:
Congratulations to Annika Poeszus and the group of young dancers (pictured above) who have been working with her on her Personal Project! The group (Bella Harris, Kristen Crasto, Anna Boone, Makayla Carkazis, Alex Grgic, Bria Phillips) recently entered the Star Bound Entertainers’ Festival, presenting an item choreographed and rehearsed by Annika. Although not placing, the girls received some lovely feedback from audience members, as well as the adjudicator, Ms Debbie Landel. It has been a great start for this young group of dancers and their work with Annika. For those who would like to see the routine, make sure you get your tickets for Purple Faces, held at the end of term.
The Senior Musical this year requires many of the cast to have lab coats. If any members of the College Community have a lab coat or two hanging in cupboard collecting dust, we will happily find them a new home. It does not matter what state of repair they are in. Any donations can be dropped to Mrs Roberts’ or Mrs Fisher’s offices in the Performing Arts Centre.
On Friday 10 June, the Jazz Band will be giving a short concert in the Performing Arts Centre commencing at 5.15pm. They would love to see parents and friends of the group in the audience as they display their work so far this year.
