Well done to students and staff on Season 2 of APS sport. The effort contributed by all to weekly practise, and the energy committed to Friday sport is appreciated.

The Department will soon be starting to come out the mid-year examination block, with rehearsals commencing for the younger members in Years 7 to 10 whilst the Years 11 and 12 students are still in examinations.
Junior School rehearsals will continue as per normal as they are leading up to the Junior School Showcase, being held on Monday 6 June.
Don’t forget that the entries are well and truly open for the Somerset Festival for Young Performers. This is a wonderful opportunity for young performers to participate in a relaxed and encouraging atmosphere. If you are learning from an instrumental or speech teacher at school, you should receive information about entries from your teacher. Entries close strictly on 27 May. Please contact your instrumental/speech and drama teacher if you have not received any information yet. For more information please click here.
Additionally, remember that on Saturday 11 June, a variety of workshops (with opportunities for private lessons) will be offered at the College as an adjunct to the Somerset Festival for Young Performers. The places in these workshops are strictly limited. Workshops on offer include Piano, Violin, Speech and Drama, Clarinet, Flute, Saxophone, Voice, Brass and Cello. They are open to students of all ages, through to Year 12. For information regarding the workshops please click here with information regarding the tutors at this link here. These workshops are not limited to just the students from Somerset College, all students are welcome.
Monday 6 June will see the Junior School Showcase take place. Many students have been busily practising their instruments and warming up their vocal chords ready for the Monday evening’s performance. Information regarding this concert will appear on Schoolbox, so keep a watch out for these notices. This is a wonderful opportunity to see where our students are at with their various ensemble groups at this point of the year. Please take the opportunity to be an audience member and perhaps take the time to meet with the director of your child’s ensemble.
Students who are keen to participate in the Gold Coast Secondary Schools’ Drama Festival should be keeping an eye on Schoolbox and the Daily Notices for information regarding this exciting performance opportunity.
If you have any general queries regarding the Festival please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Katrina Fisher. Alternately, if you would like information regarding a specific production, please direct your queries as below:
The Senior Musical this year requires many of the cast to have lab coats. If any members of the College Community have a lab coat or two hanging in cupboard collecting dust, we will happily find them a new home. It does not matter what state of repair they are in. Any donations can be dropped to Mrs Roberts’ or Mrs Fisher’s offices in the PA.« Back to IndexNext article in this edition »
