A dozen Somerset distance runners recently competed in the State Cross Country Relay Championships at Rivermount College. It was a hilly and muddy course that truly tested athletic ability and mental capacity.
Both the Girls and Boys 16 year age teams had some hard fought racing with Moreton Bay Boys’ College and St Aidan’s Anglican Girls’ School. This time Somerset came 5th in both races. Well done to the following student athletes who raced alongside very experienced Australian representatives and elite marathoners: Tess Arnold, Jess Cook, Aimee Mulvihill, Keita Emsden, Cooper Jones, and Kydra Walden.
Another team which continued their dominant season were the 13 year Girls with Jemma Clements, Riley Davenport, and Adele Phillips. These girls worked so hard and proved they will be podium contenders in 2018. They finished 5th in the State.
The 9 year Boys team of Jamie Batho, Darcy Halloran, and Raiden Kyaw have been champions over the season and were unfortunate not to take victory in their event, finishing just seconds behind the winning team from Brookfield State School.
Congratulation to these committed athletes and all the best in the upcoming athletics season.
