Within a short term, Schoolbox has become central in the online environment of the College. There has been a fantastic uptake of either accessing Schoolbox via the website or the app by students, staff and parents.
Each day Schoolbox is being used in classes for learning and teaching and also for parent, student and staff communications. It’s essentially intuitive technology, makes it easy for users to navigate, explore, engage and utilise effectively. Over February, there have been 16,000 parent logins to either Schoolbox or the app, 31,000 Senior student logins and 4,048 Junior student logins.
Schoolbox is fast becoming an effective tool for the staff and students to use to assist in the delivery of curriculum and information sharing across both the Junior and the Senior School. Part of its appeal is that it is very adaptive, meaning it can be used across the College in many ways and situations. Resources can be shared or collaborative opportunities easily created to support the learning and teaching in the classroom. In February, Junior School students accessed 2,724 files or documents via Schoolbox and Senior students 9,390 files.
The Somerset App provides a mobile option for parents, students and staff to access communication, providing a choice of how people access this same content, with a focus on the communication aspects. We’ve seen 886 parents download either the iOS or Android app and 559 Senior School students.
With Schoolbox a key goal is to ensure that we are streamlining our communication with parents and students. Your response to the introduction of Schoolbox and the Schoolbox App has been overwhelmingly positive and you have appreciated ready access to your child’s timetable and easy access to notices and other key information. Over February there have been 301 notices shared with either students, staff or parents via Schoolbox. For Senior students, their daily notices can now be accessed before the start of the school day via Schoolbox, the app or our digital signage screens, assisting in organisation for the day. For parents, we are now communicating key information, including permission forms, via the Notices in Schoolbox and the App and recommend that you are checking for these regularly.
Part of the benefits of this platform, as well as with the app, is that it is an ever evolving environment that allows us to develop and add further functionality and features to meet the need of all our community. We have been able to pass on feedback and suggestions received from students, staff and parents to the developers for future enhancements.
Since launch, the app has had 4 minor updates which have resolved bugs or added enhanced functionality. Please remember to regularly check for updates on the app stores if your device is not set to auto update. Schoolbox automatically has a minor update each week that addresses reported issues and will have 2 major updates each year.
Currently parents now have one username and password to access all online areas of the College. As we move through this year, we will be further integrating Schoolbox with My Somerset Community and My Student Account to deliver a true Single Sign On and seamless experience, as well as other enhancements.
At the start of the year, we had over 80 parents attend the different parent introductory sessions offered on Schoolbox. At the start of Term 2, we will offer parent sessions for anyone that missed these and feel they would benefit from a closer look at the different areas and features of Schoolbox and the Somerset App. To book, please click here.
