The University of New South Wales invite students to participate in International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS Sciences). Over one million student entries are accepted from over 6,300 schools in Australia and New Zealand annually.

In addition, students from over 20 countries including Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Singapore, South Africa and the USA participate in ICAS each year.

In the ICAS Sciences 2016, Somerset students achieved significant results. Overall from Years 6 to 10 there were 6 High Distinctions, 31 Distinctions, 140 Credit and 70 Merit Awards.

The following students received a Distinction: In Year 7, Vincent Chen, Aiden Eddywing, Anna Hori, Chloe Ming, Sofie Smith, Kushi Tumkur and Andrew Vasquez. In Year 8, Benjamin Agnew, Tim Lee, Ricky Lee, Jack Luke-Paredi, Anthony McKenna, Kate O’Loughlin, Joanne Ryu and Jennifer Zhang. In Year 9, Chad Brodbeck, Sapumal Gunaruwan, Maya Hobley, Harry Ko, Montana McFarlane, Matthew Sprague and Nikolas Sugden. In Year 10, Michael Blauberg, Kirsty Brodbeck, Marc Eksteen, Jimmy Li, Aidan McKeon and Kevina Yau.

The following students received a High Distinction: In Year 8, Mohnish Chand, Jack Hellier and Marcus Ibsen. In Year 9, Liam Heydenrych, Kevin Song and George Tian.

Today we also celebrate the extraordinary achievement of one student, George Tian in Year 9, who has achieved within the top 1% and has received a medal for ‘Award of Excellence’. We are very proud!
