As most know, we started a new Triathlon programme in 2019 and it has grown with incredible speed. What began as a nine week, first TRI Challenge, developed into a solid group of 30 youth and age-group athletes participating in different races around the Gold Coast.

Thanks to dedicated parents and the outstanding work done by all of our collaborators at Somerset College, we have decided to step-up and become the Spartans Triathlon Club starting this season.

The new Spartans Triathlon Club is your opportunity to support the Somerset Community in your Triathlon Australia Membership Renewal or your way into the sport as a beginner. We have a full programme that involves not only our Junior Development students but can give you the delightful experience of participating in one or more races along the upcoming season supported by a coaching and race day infrastructure. You will be able to race for the first time with a supportive group of parents welcoming you.

We have a handful of sessions you are welcome to join as a Youth triathlete or an Age-Grouper. As we grow as a Club these will also increase and you can easily meet new training buddies with the same performance level for that informal get together session, or even a race simulation. For now, the sessions are held at school and at the Nerang Velodrome.

We will be concluding our season this Saturday 24 June with the Aquathon held at the Somerset Pool and existing members can resume training on Wednesday 24 July.

Training Schedule

Monday: 7.00am to 8.00am - Swim - Students and Adults - Somerset pool
Tuesday: 7.00am to 8.00am - Indoor Strength/Bike/Run Technical Session – Students and Adults - Somerset Fitness Centre
Wednesday: 6.00am – 6.45am – Run Training Adults (Interval Training) - Somerset Track (Fitness Centre during winter)
6.45am to 8.00am – Run Training Students (Interval Training) - Somerset Track
Thursday: 3:30pm – 5:15pm – Strength/Bike/Run Endurance Session – Students and Adults - Somerset Fitness Centre
Friday: 7.00am to 8.00am - Swim - Students and Adults - Somerset pool

Saturday Sessions

Type 1 Session - NERANG Criterium Circuit and Velodrome
6.00am to 7.30am - Cycling - Adults and Performance Students
7.30am to 9.00am - Transition Training (Run/Cycle) - All Students and Adults
9.30am to 10.30am - Swim - All Students and Adults - Somerset pool

Type 2 Session - Somerset College

6.30am to 8.00am - Bike Skills Training - Beginner Adults and All Students - Somerset Basketball Courts
8.00am to 9.00am - Indoor Brick Session - All Students and Adults - Somerset Fitness Centre
9.30am to 10.30am - Swim - All Students and Adults - Somerset pool

We are aware of the commitments you all have, especially our youngsters with so many sport opportunities offered by the College, so participation in training sessions are done according to individual commitments. Anyone involved in the Club can always replicate the sessions at a more convenient time, our coaching staff will be ready to share and individualise the training programme to suit your needs and race objectives.

We welcome the Somerset Community to join us on Saturday 3 August for the launch of the Somerset Spartans Triathlon Club.
