Somerset Swim Clubs Ashley Callus (coach) and Ben Treffers (athlete) have been selected to represent Australia at the upcoming world university games to be held at Taipai, Taiwan in August this year.

Ben Treffers (Australian National University) re-located to the Gold Coast in January to train at Somerset under Sydney 2000 Olympic relay gold medalist Ashley Callus – who is one of five coaches named on the Australian team.

Callus believes these world games will be a huge stepping stone for Treffers who will trial for the Commonwealth Games team next year. Treffers only just missed selection on the world championship team earlier this year so this selection is a huge confidence boost for him.

Ashley Callus has made a successful transition from an athlete to coach. Callus has been coaching at Somerset Swim Club for 4 years now and his selection as swim coach in the Australian University team is a step in the right direction for Callus who is perusing his career as a coach and mentor.
