Somerset Swim Club had an outstanding State Swimming Titles in December with more swimmers than ever making finals, winning medals and contributing to the Club’s highest result on the team point score.
Somerset had 24 swimmers compete in individual events as well as 40 swimmers compete in relay events. The relay events were on the first day of the week-long meet and Somerset won three out of the twenty relay events, which is an amazing achievement. More so, the 12 and Under Girls teams placed first and fourth out of 90 teams! The Somerset A team in the 12 and Under Girls event, made up of Olivia Collins, Georgia Ellwood, Maddy Allars, and Ashaya Morgan, won by more than 2 seconds. The State Champion relay teams were the 14 and Under Boys with the Freestyle team of Thomas Nowakowski, Ieuan Watkins, Leon Shirayama and Lleyton Morgan and the Medley team of Thomas Nowakowski, Harrison Smith, Leon Shirayama and Lleyton Morgan. This helped Somerset finish in the top few Clubs in the State following the relay day.
Somerset’s Individual results produced 15 finalists, with ten of these winning medals. Many of the medals were silver medals, as swimmers get close to becoming State Champions. Leon Shirayama was the only Gold medallist, for the Boys 14 Years 200m Butterfly.
