Somerset students have peaked at the right time when it comes to public speaking. After warming up at the Somerset Public Speaking Competition in Term Three, students ranging from Years 5 to 12 went on to compete with over 250 other students from 25 schools, at the A.B. Paterson Public Speaking competition last week.
The series began in Term Three and culminated in the Grand Finals Week 3 of Term Four. We had 32 students advance through the heats into the Preliminary Finals and then a talented few proceeded to the Grand Finals. Lucy Colahan and Anna Thomas competed strongly in the Year 5 division of the Grand Final and Thomas Kilmartin and Ruben Yam victoriously placed first and third respectively in the Year 7 division. Georgina Powell also brought home first place in the Year 9 division.
