On Sunday 9 October, two Somerset cycling staff teams participated in the annual Tour de Valley held at Currumbin in the Teams Time Trial event.
On arrival, the weather looked ominous, clouds were gathering and the wind was picking up. It would be a tough trip up to the end of the valley but a nice tail wind on return.
Somerset Spartans 1 set off first at 8.45am, consisting of David Thornton, Dallas O'Brien, Darren McVeigh, Rachel Skyring and Cameron Ritchie. They would come in to the finish line 1 hour 19 minutes and finish in 4th place. Somerset Spartans 2, consisting of Craig Sayer, Ash Abdou, Jeff Grocott, Roy Wheeler and Tim Fisher, would start eight minutes behind Team 1 at 8.53am and finish with a time of 1 hour 1 minute. While this was the fastest time on the course, due to the race being a handicap race, they were relegated to 2nd position. Overall, it was another successful Tour de Valley for the Somerset team, replicating last year’s 2nd placing and also having 10 members present.
Please congratulate all riders should you see them around the College.
