Somerset and All Saints' 1st Netball teams had their annual APS encounter Friday 17 May, with both teams sitting at the top of the table having won all their games. All Saints may have had the home advantage but our team were well prepared and not loosening the grip on the trophy just yet.
The annual clash means a lot to both teams with the Headmasters' trophy at stake, the Wallas-Bassingthwaighte Cup.
With an injection of younger players to the side this year Somerset started the game strongly leading 13-6 by the end of the first quarter. All Saints fought hard in the second quarter but couldn’t match the experience of our Year 12 girls, Rylee Burns, Kasey Collins, Sara Dann and Natalie Blauberg, who were instrumental in supporting our younger players on court, Ellie Muir, Amaris Toia, and Jemma Clements and Georgia Wilson.
Going into the third quarter Somerset still only led by 9 goals and All Saints continued with their relentless defence and accurate shooting. Somerset were patient with the ball and their precise timing just proved to slick for the opposition with a strong second half finishing the game with the win 44 to 27.
Well done to Amaris and Kasey for their shooting accuracy netting 40 from 46 goals and to the girls for another great team effort. Great to have the trophy back home!
Thanks to the All Saints team for a great game and for providing post game refreshments.« Back to IndexNext article in this edition »
