With many teams going all out to fulfil the “Everything Olympic” themed trivia night, leading the way with their fancy dress to take the prize of “Best dressed table” were the “Bolivian Conchita Women's Wrestling Team” which was made up of parents, teachers and was led by Somerset Alumna and current rowing parent, Emma Rudkin.
The night has become a “must do” for the Rowing Community, but has also seen teams from the broader community and Alumni returning to the College to support the new crop of students who are enjoying rowing. The winning team, Athletic Supporters, made up of some of our supportive ex-rowers and students including, Ali Barry, Harri Webb, Henry Leef and Nicholas Trueman. The winning student team was the Quizzlamic Extremists, made up of Year 11 students.
The trivia was brilliantly formulated by our quiz master and mother of the Somerset College Vice Captain Finlay Walton, Kerry Shepherd. Given the diversity of age groups and interests in the 200 strong audience, Kerry has done a fantastic job to ensure that there is always something of interest for everyone at the event.
The Trivia Night is a major fundraiser for the College rowers with proceeds going towards purchasing boats, oars and other equipment for the rowers. Thanks to the generosity of the Somerset College business community and the rowing families, there were fantastic prizes from Helicopter flights, to holidays, artworks and even a lawn mower. Thanks to all those who purchased the great auction items, the night raised many thousands of dollars which will go to providing more fantastic equipment for the rowers. Thanks to Mrs Jacqui Sina for her perseverance in acquiring such fantastic prizes and for all of the work she put in to organising the event.
Also thanks to the many people across the College who put in extra to make the night a great success, including the Rowing Committee and volunteers, the Events team, Administration staff and especially the Grounds and Cleaning staff who ensured The Great Hall was converted from exam mode, to trivia night and back to exam mode by the start of school on Monday morning.
To all those who participated, volunteered, donated and contributed financially, I would like to thank you on behalf of the students because it is your continued generosity and support that allows us to provide such great equipment and support for our student rowers.
Thank you to all the businesses for their generous donations. We ask that, when possible, the Somerset Community support the businesses that support Somerset College. They can be found in the Resources section of this article.« Back to IndexNext article in this edition »
