I cannot believe that in just two short weeks I will have been in the role of Head of Junior School at Somerset College for one year and wow, what a year it has been! I started the year with high hopes and high expectations around community, staff and students, and I certainly have not been disappointed.
Seven Somerset College students were invited by the Bond Business School to pitch their new business ideas at the annual Gold Coast Demo Day, Wednesday 14 November. These new student developed businesses were first conceptualised during the Celebration of Entrepreneurship in October this year.
A new tradition was created on Wednesday 14 November to officially open the new field at Wyangan Oval. The 2018 premiership winning Senior Girls AFL team took on a very capable team of AFL Alumni, including, Ms Bronwyn Lee and Casey Reynoldson (Class of 2016) who both joined in on field, and coached by Mrs McQueen.

Our annual Sports Awards Dinner was held recently, honouring our stand out competitors in Senior School. Congratulations to all students for all their efforts in Sports throughout 2018.
As part of the College’s reciprocal relationship with Ignition Athletics Club, a clinic for Somerset student athletes was held. Along with renowned coaches, our students welcomed star athletes to the track for this week's clinic.
Over the weekend of 10 and 11 November, 16 Somerset students took part in two weekend events, the Junior Masters and the One Day Challenge. In a huge combined field of 108, our Somerset students did very well, winning six trophies.
Last Friday, 9 November 2018, six of our finest Year 10 mathematics students completed the MYP eAssessment for Year 10 Mathematics Extended. The eAssessment is an on-screen examination lasting two-hours that provides a reliable, globally consistent and highly innovative assessment model.
Our annual Book Swap was held Friday 9 November and this year we decided to donate the remaining books to the Books 4 PNG Kids foundation. The Foundation collects, packs and ships books to children aged 0 to 14 in Papua New Guinea.
