Our Year 6 Netball team just returned from Ipswich after competing in the Queensland Primary School Cup over the weekend. Somerset joined 110 other schools for a weekend that was filled with fun, sunshine and some tough netball.
Somerset was well represented, with the team made up mostly of our undefeated APS side, with the addition of newbies Victoria Jones and Phoebe Ross who added real strength to the team. The team shooters were Alijana Framp, Sophie Vitte and Claudia Crimmins who were consistent throughout with their shooting and hard work. Our midcourters were the amazingly fast and dogged Teneal Nguyen and Riley Davenport and in defence Lucia Dann, Jorja Otto and Anna Wiesener who all worked tirelessly giving 100% in every game. We were lucky enough to have a statistician for the weekend who did a fantastic job also, Giorgi Cornford, who unfortunately broke her finger during training last week and was unable to play.
On Saturday, we were undefeated in all four games finishing top of our pool and qualifying for Division 1 for Sunday meaning Somerset were in the top 20 in State.
Two tough games and two losses meant we were out of the Top 8 but the girls fought back to win the final two games finishing up 11th overall, which is an amazing effort.
Well done girls and thank you for being such a great team and doing your best. This is a great result! Thank you also to Mrs Framp who did a fantastic job with the team. The girls hair looked amazing too!
