As part of our inquiry about the environment, students went on a nature walk to the school pond. We investigated; habitats, animals, insects and pollution. We were sad to find rubbish near the water. Together we problem solved and decided that the pond area needs more rubbish bins.
Once we collected samples of water and plants we returned to the classroom. Together, as scientists, we tried to classify the plants and microscopic insects using microscopes, discussion and a plankton reference sheet. We found dragonfly larva and discovered that leaves have veins.
Later in the week, we made a Venn diagram comparing two environments, gardens and ponds. We could not believe how many things these environments share! We are the Earth's friend.
