During the holidays we took the Under 12 Rugby team to Armidale to contest the The Armidale School's annual Rugby carnival. This was the third year we have sent a team down to the New England Region and the boys exceeded our expectations with their courage, co-operation and sportsmanship.

On the first day of competition, the team were up against some difficult competition with games against Toowoomba, South Toowoomba, Riverview and St Pius X College. The Junior Spartans played courageously, narrowly loosing the games by the smallest of margins. On the second day, Somerset played Alstonville (Lismore) in their play off and won 12-5. This meant they were able to keep their seeding in Division 2 for 2017.

Congratulations to all the team and especially to Charlie Liu who was named Player of the Tour.

It was a fantastic weekend away with these young men. A special thank you to Mr Andrew Halloran, Mr Troy Zernike and Mr Brad Cates who helped coach, manage and guide the boys over the weekend.

When returning back to Somerset, the boys played a game against a touring Knox team from Sydney. The team used their experience from Armidale putting their skills and determination to the test and defeated their much bigger and more experienced opponents, 24-10.
