Last week, the Year 5s dazzled the Junior School with their retail expertise. It was, of course, for the annual Year 5 shop, a component of their latest inquiry, producers and consumers influence the marketplace.

It is designed to give them an insight into the retail environment and allows them to manage such things as stock control and cash/card handlings. It also serves as a great lesson in supply and demand as they watched popular items fly off the shelf.

The Year 5s worked with maturity and enthusiasm as over 600 transactions were processed. The shop was also an important part of PYP Exhibition. It was decided that the profits made from the shop would be donated to a charity organisation of their choosing based on their learning throughout this very powerful and life-changing inquiry. It is my pleasure to say that $1,440 will be going towards those less fortunate in our world.

The students are still deciding the breakdown of these donations; however, they are incredibly happy with the result and the Year 5 teachers are proud of their endless efforts to produce this outstanding end result. Thank you to all who came and supported the shop, we hope you are enjoying your purchases.
