On Friday 7 October the “Sound of Breeze from Japan” concert was held in the Performing Arts Theatre featuring the shinobue (Japanese bamboo flute) and Taiko drum. Yasukazu Kano (shinobue) and Bashow Kanagawa (taiko) are world famous musicians who are professional musicians performing on the world stage.

They were joined by four Somerset students on Piano (Mayuri Yamaguchi), Taiko drumming (Marina Ishii) and Flute (Kelly Park and Jana Zielinski), as well as other musicians, dancers and drummers from Robina High School and members of Kizuna Taiko group and others.

On the morning of the concert these two experts presented a workshop for Years 9 and 10 Japanese students. They were entertained by the energetic rhythm of the Taiko drum and the haunting sound of the Japanese flute. Some students were given the opportunity to try the instruments and together they enjoyed making music.

What a wonderful opportunity for the Somerset Community!
