On Saturday 6 August, the Junior Play cast entered the Somerset Drama rooms for one last rehearsal before heading up to Saint Stephen's College for their performance in the Gold Coast Secondary School Drama Festival.

After six weeks of intense rehearsals (before and after school, lunchtimes and weekends), the extremely talented cast performed I Never Saw Another Butterfly. Set in World War Two Nazi-Germany in the model Jewish ghetto, Terezin, the play focused on the struggles and perseverance of the detained Jewish youths.

The cast performed exceptionally well and received Highly Commended awards for:

  • Acting (Dom Bensley, Amy Jackson, Desmond Chuah and Georgina Powell)
  • Commitment to Performance (Min Jae Kyeong)
  • Direction (Xenavee Goldsmith and Sarah Beaumont)
  • Design and Production Elements
  • Ensemble Work
  • Manipulation of Actors/Cast

The adjudicator awarded trophies for Outstanding Acting Award (Dom Bensley), Best Dramatic Performance and 2nd place in the competition.

None of this could have happened without the help and support of Mrs Strand and the wonderful cast: Dom Bensley, Anna Boone, Tanisha Chadha, Desmond Chuah, Jenna Goldie, Ella Hammond, Amy Jackson, Ella Kirk, Min Jae Kyeong, Lilly McCoomb, and Georgina Powell.

Thanks to everyone involved throughout the process and those who came to support us on the night!
