A group of approximately 50 Somerset students represented the College at the Queensland School Rowing Championships which were held at Bucca Weir outside of Bundaberg in the school holidays.

Lachlan Munro claimed a gold medal as a member of the South Coast Under 16 Boys' Quad Scull, which took a convincing victory in the inter-regional championship.

Declan Roberts, Reuben Mansell, Lorenz Muhlbauer, Ryan McClure and Blake Mills combined to claim a silver medal in the Boys' Open Four. Declan had worked hard all year to overcome injury so it was great to see him and Reuben take out the bronze medal in the Boys' Open Pair.

Lorenz also teamed up with Sam Platt-Muniz to claim a bronze medal in the Boys' Year 11 Pair. The duo impressively held off a late challenge for the third place, holding their nerve and coming home with the medal.

Jade Mansell and Blake Mills also represented the South Coast crews in the regatta, finishing agonisingly close to the medals.

Katie Plume had also qualified as the top sculler in the South Coast Open Girls' Quad but unfortunately suffered a major injury to her shoulder in the lead up to the titles and was unable to compete, but still came up to help coach and manage the Junior Girls' crews.

Some of the other finalists were the:

  • Year 11 Boys' Four
  • Year 10 Boys' Double - Lachlan Munro and Marc Eksteen
  • Year 9 Boys' Quads - Declan Thew, Joe Lanham, Thomas McKenna, Julius Wright and Alexander Taylor-Girdler
  • Year 8 Boys' Double - Anthony McKenna and Chester Whiting
  • Year 8 Boys' Quad - Carter Loades, Leo Xin, Anthony McKenna, Chester Whiting, Cox: Bailey Morris

I would like to extend a big thank you to Mrs Jacqui Sina, Mr Nick McKinnon and Mr Stuart Moore for their assistance with the students across the weekend and also to the many parents who helped with catering and logistics.
