School sport is a compulsory aspect of a Somerset education. Students who attend school on any given day are expected to attend afterschool sports practice if scheduled that day.
Students who are unable to attend their Monday or Wednesday practice session are given the opportunity to practice with another team on the alternate day.
Students cannot excuse themselves from practices. Only an email, diary note or phone call from a parent to the coach in advance, is acceptable. These expectations have been made clear to students in the following ways:
- All-school sports assemblies
- Somerset Times
- Daily Notices
- Reinforcement from coaches on a regular basis
We take our 'duty of care' very seriously and not knowing where a student is when they should be at sport, is obviously a concern for staff and parents alike. We expect students to 'do the right thing' in terms of their responsibility to school sport.
The Sports Department is requesting the donation of old or unused rugby, hockey or soccer boots, in order to provide disadvantaged children and teens from Indigenous Communities with the ability to participate in sports that require their use in order to play competitively. A bin labelled ‘Boots for Kids’ - will be located on the bottom of level of the new Fitness Centre. Please drop your old boots here as soon as possible.
If your son or daughter is injured at school sport, it must be recorded at the time by the school Nurse/Health Centre if parents wish to apply through the school insurance policy. If delayed signs or symptoms arise over the weekend, students must notify the College Nurse on Monday morning.
