Welcome back to our Spartan sporting community for 2017. This year will be an exciting one with our world-class sporting facilities and top programmes.


Generic - Senior Sports

Tenyka Chapman, Athletics

In December, Tenyka competed at the 2016 Australian All Schools Athletics Championships at the AIS in Canberra and placed 7th in the Under 16 3,000m Walk in a time of 16:05.47.

Rylee Burns, Athletics

Last week, Rylee competed at the Sally Pearson Shield at QSAC and jumped 11.06m in the Triple Jump to qualify for this term’s National titles.

Katherine Plume and Jade Mansell, Rowing

Over the holidays, at the Grafton Head of the Clarence Regatta, Jade and Katie took out 1st place in the Under 17 Double Scull and were awarded the perpetual trophy.

Somerset Sport Policy

All policies and procedures are outlined in the Senior School Sport page of Schoolbox, under “Sport Policy and Dates”. All students and parents are encouraged to familiarise themselves with these.

Regional Swimming Nominations

All those students who wish to qualify for the South Coast Swim Trials must see Mr Lunniss for paperwork. (Qualification is through the APS Carnival and paper nominations for other events)

Winter Sports Sign-ups

Rugby, Netball, Soccer, Hockey, Tennis and Volleyball are available. All students have been sent an email with a link to select their sport. If you make an error or change your mind, you must go to the Sports Department.

Swimming Practices

Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7.30am. Meet Mr Butcher at the pool.

Cross Country Practices

Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7.00am. Meet Ms McKenna and Ms Oppermann at the Track.

Student Injuries

If your son or daughter is injured at school sport, it must be recorded at the time by the College Nurse/medical person present if parents wish to apply through the College insurance policy. If delayed signs or symptoms arise over the weekend, students must notify the College Nurse on Monday morning.

  • 1.15pm: House Swimming (100m Races)

Swimming Season Dates

  • Friday 3 February: Somerset House Swimming 100m Events (1.30pm to 3.00pm)
  • Monday 13 February: Somerset Inter-House Swimming Carnival (11am to 4.00pm)
  • Wednesday 15 February: APS Swimming Carnival (9.30am to 2.30pm) at Somerset
  • Monday 27 February and Wednesday 1 March: South Coast Swimming Trials (4.30pm to 9.00pm) at Southport
