Sports Practices

School sport is a compulsory aspect of a Somerset education. Students who attend school on any given day are expected to attend after-school sports practice if scheduled that day. Students who are unable to attend their Monday or Wednesday practice session are given the opportunity to practice with another team on the alternate day. Students cannot excuse themselves from practices. Only an email, diary note or phone call from a parent to the coach in advance, is acceptable. These expectations have been made clear to students in the following ways:

  • College Sport Assemblies
  • Somerset Times
  • daily notices
  • reinforcement from coaches on a regular basis

We take our “duty of care” very seriously and not knowing where a student is when they should be at sport is obviously a concern for staff and parents alike. We expect students to “do the right thing” in terms of their responsibility to school sport.

If your son or daughter is injured at school sport, it must be recorded at the time by the College Nurse/medical person present if parents wish to apply through the College insurance policy. If delayed signs or symptoms arise over the weekend, students must notify the College Nurse on Monday morning.

Sports Information

Don’t forget to check the Schoolbox Senior School Sport Page as well as the noticeboard at the end of The Smith Building for all sports notes. If you need more information, drop by the Sports Office in the new Sports Precinct.
