Somerset’s elite Netball teams have been competing in the local Monday night Hinterland Netball competition since February. Our Senior 1st team competed in 1st division and the Academy team in 3rd division. Both teams have competed extremely well throughout the season finishing top of the table going into Grand Finals.

The 1st team had a tough game playing a much older, experienced team that had won the competition for the past few seasons. We started well and continued to lead for most of the game going into the last quarter. Unfortunately a sprained ankle forced Captain Xanthe Cerutti from the court which meant a reshuffle in defence.

It was goal for goal with Somerset leading by two points halfway through the quarter, then some great team defence and some sterling intercepts by Rosie Bensley and Chelsea Blauberg gave the girls some additional scoring opportunities. Manon Chamberlain was dominant and strong in the circle finishing off with some great shooting and leading the team to a Grand Final win by eight goals.

Our Academy team went into their Grand Final confident, after having a great season. The girls dominated from the start and never looked back, working well as a team and having outstanding performances from all of the players. A well-deserved convincing Grand Final win.

Well done, girls!
