Starkey House has had a busy and very successful semester!

Term 1 commenced with our House Chapel, where we were treated to inspiring readings by both teachers and students about the importance of living a generous life and the impact it can have on others. The House Chapel also offered an opportunity for Starkey families to come together to “break bread” and reflect upon our House motto of “Unity is Strength.”

The coming weeks saw the House competition kicking off for the year with the infamously sweltering Inter-House Swimming Carnival, in which we placed a humble third. A special mention must go to Ioanna Vinacci****a, who was noted to be “the best student marshaller ever seen!” by one particular member of staff.

Despite the post-Swim Carnival fatigue, the House Plays Festival preparations were well underway. The director’s and their cast were tirelessly working on their play “boy girl wall” which went on to be a real crowd pleaser at the festival.

In Week 7, the students of Starkey 2 and Starkey 10, ran a spider stall to raise funds for the Humming Bird House, and raised an impressive $400. The collaboration of students in these Pastoral Care groups was a clear reflection of the Starkey House values.

The following week was marked with some strong competition in the Inter-House Rowing Regatta, with outstanding individual and team performances that awarded Starkey with a solid second place.

After a sudden end to the term (thanks to Cyclone Debbie) we hit the ground running for Term 2 with the annual Inter-House Cross Country carnival. This ended successfully for Starkey, taking home the win for the second year in a row, and giving us the lead in the Arnison Cup!

We soon then headed into the stressful examination period, giving a break to the chain of Inter-House events within the term. Last Saturday saw the long awaited arrival of the Senior Ball. Here, our Starkey Seniors turned out in their finest attire and celebrated the half-way point in their final year of schooling – it certainly was a night to remember!

Despite the busy-ness of the term, we have been impressed with the way Starkey students have continued to apply themselves in all areas of College life, and hence, giving us a strong lead in the Arnison Cup. We look forward to seeing Starkey continue the success of the year in Semester 2!
