On the weekend of 3 and 4 June, the 2016 Wordsmiths Camp took place. On Friday afternoon, 80 budding authors and poets set off to QCCC Mount Tamborine for a weekend full of all things literature. Starting on Friday night with a music-inspired session from Dr Brohier. This was followed by a seniors-only session, which eventuated into an intense debate about all things stories and fiction.
The real question is: what is art?
Lights out led to a night that was probably a little too late with a little too much sugar. It all started again at 7.30am with meditation, which preceded a myriad of sessions throughout the day: acrostics, sonnets and everything in between. After this, we moved into an exciting performance evening complete with theatre sports, original songs, bad jokes, questionable haikus and – of course – the annual Wordsmiths Rap. Everyone was sad to leave on Sunday morning – particularly the Year 12s, many of whom have been members of the club for five years. Thank you to Dr Brohier, Ms Lee and Mr Walther for facilitating an excellent camp. The upcoming semester will see many exciting times for the club, so be sure to stay tuned!
