This term in Design, our Year 10 class are undertaking a Free Choice Project, where we are required to select our own choice of topic for our project and complete it independently. For my project, I have chosen to design and make a jewellery set to support a charity that works to preserve the Great Barrier Reef.

I chose to support the Great Barrier Reef in my project because it is a natural wonder that is located here in Australia. Unfortunately, this beautiful place is under constant threat from dangers such as pollution, over-fishing and industrialisation.

In Design, we try to create products that solve problems or improve quality of life. My solution to the Great Barrier Reef problem is to create a range of jewellery sets that contain features that represent the Great Barrier Reef. The sets could be sold as merchandise, with funds going to support the conservation of the Great Barrier Reef. The charity that I have chosen to support is the Australian Marine Conservation Society.

I hope to learn more about the Great Barrier Reef and my chosen charity from this project. I also hope to use unfamiliar materials and processes that I would not usually be exposed to through this Free Choice Project.
