Last week Year 9 Studies in Commerce students met with Division 9 Councillor Glenn Tozer.

Complimenting their study during the first half of this term in ‘Politics in Action’, students discussed with Mr Tozer what leadership skills it takes and what is involved in the daily life of a politician. Mr Tozer was open, honest, and gave us insight into the life of a politician, good and bad, and fairly gave his views on hot local issues such as the new development on Clover Hill Drive and the proposed cruise ship terminal. Importantly, he emphasised the love of his community and wanting to make positive change.

A timely visit with the upcoming local elections Mr Tozer explained how running for office works, the costs involved, and his marketing approach to winning the next election this month. It was a very informative session which highlighted the MYP concepts of process and power, and the influence citizens can have in determining the outcomes in a community.
